You’re not even sure if it’s possible to feel good again.

You’ve struggled with your mood for a long time.

You’ve probably tried conventional approaches like talk therapy or medication.

Sure, they helped, but you’re still not where you want to be.

Your energy is tanked. You cry at random TV commercials.

You dream of being more involved with life, but it’s too hard right now.

And you’ve already done so much to get better. That’s the worst part.

I know exactly what that feels like.

I was on a rollercoaster with my mood for years, and had over 10 different mental health diagnoses.

I was diligent with therapy and medication, but somehow, I managed to get worse — until an accidental discovery changed (and saved) my life.

Through trial and error, I discovered that food sensitivities and physical health problems were contributing to my mental health symptoms. And when I addressed those issues with nutrition, I healed.

To say I am a different person now is an understatement:

  • My social anxiety (which used to cripple me) is gone, and now I have no problem introducing myself to strangers or talking in front of large audiences
  • I used to sleep until 2 p.m., and now I wake up early and go to the gym (I’m one of those obnoxious people)
  • In the old days, I used to drink a bottle of wine every night, and regularly ate pizza, pasta, donuts, and ice cream to numb my feelings — now, I don’t even crave those foods
  • I struggled with weight loss resistance for a long time, but I finally figured out which hormonal system was “stuck,” enabling me to lose more than 60 pounds
  • My mood is solid, stable, and positive, and I no longer live in constant fear that I could have a meltdown at any moment

I share this to show you what’s possible. Just a few years ago, I was convinced my depression was something I’d live with forever.

t

I know what you’re thinking.

That gives me so much hope! But how can I know if nutrition will help me?

look for these signs:

R

depression, anxiety, and stress control your life

Your moods keep you from living your best life. You’re too down in the dumps (or high-strung on anxiety) to feel confident in most situations.

R

brain fog makes it hard for you to think straight

Your head feels foggy, cloudy, and fuzzy. You feel less creative, you lose your train of thought, and you forget what to say mid-sentence.
R

traditional approaches haven't worked for you

You’ve likely tried talk therapy or medication. While you got some benefit from these tools, you can’t shake the feeling that something else is wrong.
R

you have embarrassing tummy troubles

Gas, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, IBS, or bloating is your constant companion. But you’ve dealt with it for so long, it feels like “part of life.”
R

your energy is awful, and you're so exhausted

When you wake up, all you can think about is going back to sleep. You probably rely on coffee, energy drinks, or sweets to get through the day.
R

it's hard to lose weight, and you feel self-conscious

You’re heavier than you’d like to be, but your weight loss attempts haven’t worked. You don’t feel confident, which adds to your depressive feelings.
R

Did you say "yes" to 3 or more issues?

If so, that’s a good thing. Why? It means that a nutritional imbalance is likely making your symptoms worse, even if you have a history of emotional trauma.

And now that you know, you have the power to do something about it.

My Mental Health Nutrition Coaching Program is designed for people who have reached a breaking point.

You’re depressed and low on energy, but something’s gotta give. You’re tired of feeling like your mood controls you, and you’re tired of not getting answers about your health.

Through private online coaching sessions, we’ll get to the root of why you still feel lousy. Then, we’ll create a customzied action plan to support your best mental and physical health.

my program is based on these four pillars:

U

body systems assessment

Using in-depth assessement tools, we’ll pinpoint which systems in your body are under stress. This way, we know exactly what to focus on in our work together.
?

targeted supplementation

Confused about what you should be taking for a better mood? I’ll take the guesswork away with tailored recommendations. I only recommend supplements that I’ve had clinical success with.

personalized nutrition

I’ll help you discover which foods support your best mood — and which ones might be causing trouble. This is far from your typical “diet” — no going hungry, and no counting calories.

mindset coaching

Before working with Holly, I felt so stuck. Even though therapy was helping me, I still felt really depressed, I had no energy, and I was having a hard time losing weight.

Holly was able to show me that my stress had placed a burden on my adrenals and digestion, and that I needed to make some changes to support them. I was honestly skeptical, because I’ve been told that my lab results look fine.

After just three months following her plan, I am down to one cup of coffee per day, I’ve lost 21 pounds, and my mood has seriously improved. I no longer feel like I’ve been hit by a truck when I wake up in the morning! I really wish I would have found her sooner. It would have saved me a lot of heartache. She is so supportive and I can’t recommend her enough.

You’ve been told your brain chemistry is imbalanced, it’s “all in your head,” or “it’s just stress.”

But what if it’s really your hormones, your digestion, or even food sensitivities?

Wouldn’t you want to know?

my program is best for people who …

» Want to approach mental health challenges naturally and holistically

» Have had limited results with therapy or medication

» Are struggling with mood, energy, mental clarity, digestion, or weight

» Have tapered off antidepressants, but are still having withdrawal symptoms or unstable moods

» Would like to prepare for an easier medication taper under the supervision of their doctor

» Have totally had it with their symptoms and are ready to try something new

» Are willing and ready to take charge of their health, no shortcuts, no excuses

The clinical experience to help you get results. The heartfelt experience of knowing exactly what it’s like.

I received rigorous training in functional nutrition through the Nutritional Therapy Association, and have immersed myself in countless hours of study regarding the role of nutrition in mental health. Additionally, I know what it’s like to be “in the trenches” struggling with mood issues. My care is both clinical and compassionate, results-oriented and heart-centered.

— Holly Higgins, NTP

I found Holly while searching Pinterest, of all places, for “ways to come off antidepressants.” What I found was more than I could have ever expected.

In 3 short months, Holly helped to change my perspective on things in my life, she guided me to me eat better, to laugh more, and inspired me beyond measure. I had a lot bumps in the road, but she stuck with me and got me through it with compassion and a great attitude.

I’m forever thankful for my experience with Holly. If you are looking for an authentic person to work with, she is your person! I call her my one #NONPINTERESTFAIL!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this program three months long?
This is not a quick-fix program, and it takes time to see changes. Though you may see certain improvements immediately, three months is the average amount it time it takes for most people to see significant results. You owe it to yourself!
How much does it cost?
Please email me at holly@hollyfisherhiggins.com for pricing — I’ll be happy to let you know the cost of the program, and to answer any questions you have.
Do you offer packages with fewer sessions?
For new clients, I don’t. It takes time to see healing, and I want you to make a commitment to yourself to see that through.
How does online coaching work?
I use Zoom Video Conferencing for all of my sessions, which is quick and easy to download. It’s very similar to Skype. You can wear your comfy pants — I don’t judge!

If you’d prefer to have our coaching sessions over the phone, we can do that, too.

All communication outside of our sessions will take place over email.

Most of my appointment times are in the afternoons and evenings on EST. I do have flexible hours to accomodate those in different time zones.

Do you accept insurance?
I do not. However, some of my clients find that they are able to pay with their HSA/Flex spending accounts. Check with your provider to see if this is an option for you.
What types of dietary changes do you recommend?

My philosophy is based in ancestral nutrition, and while I am not dogmatic about any particular approach, my suggestions are rooted in the paradigms of Weston A. Price, Whole30, paleo, primal, GAPS, and “real food” eating styles. I’m not going to have you count anything, you’re not going to eat rice cakes, and your food is going to taste damn good if I have anything to say about it.

Please note that I do not work with vegetarians who are unwilling to incorporate animal products into their diet. There is a strong link between vegetarianism and mental health issues, and I do not advocate long-term vegetarian diets for this reason.

If you start the program, we’ll make changes at a pace that works for you. I’ll help you learn how to make the best choices when cooking at home and dining out. Clients who have the most success with this program start an anti-inflammatory elimination diet to identify food sensitivities, and then gradually add items back in to assess tolerance.

How much can I expect to spend on supplements?
First, know that I have a food-first focus in my practice, and I only recommend supplements when I think they’re necessary.

As a general rule of thumb, I never suggest more than 5 supplements at a time. However, the supplements I recommend are clinical grade, and they are more expensive (and more effective) than what is available over the counter. My clients typically spend $25-$100 per month on supplements, depending on their unique protocols.

If cost is a concern for you, or you aren’t comfortable using supplements, please let me know — I am happy to accommodate you!

I am on medication. Can I still do your program?
Of course! I will always research your medications and make sure my recommendations are not contraindicated. (For example, certain dietary supplements and foods cannot be taken with certain medications.)

Please note that you do not need to have a goal of coming off medication in order to work with me. I do not believe in stigmatizing medication, and you can read more about my stance on that here.

Can you help me get off of medication?
Providing direct advice about how to taper your antidepressant (or any other medication) is outside of the scope of my practice, and I do not do this.

However, I can point you to resources that you can share with your doctor or psychiatrist to help you create an informed plan together. You should never try to quit psychiatric medications on your own, or quit them cold turkey.

Many people find that adopting a supportive nutrition program (like mine) makes the medication tapering process much easier. However, you must adjust your medication under the supervision of a licensed provider.

I really want to do this, but I don't think it's the right time.
Whether it’s the holidays, an important event, or traveling, it seems like there is always something getting in the way of change. The fact is, there will never be a perfect time. Change happens when you DECIDE you are ready for it, despite inconveniences and obstacles.

That being said, there are circumstances when it truly isn’t the right time to do this program. If you are uncertain, please email me with your concerns, and I can tell you whether or not my program would be a good fit.
